Covid-19 crisis fund supports children's charity

Sunshine Wishes Children's Charity is a Scottish charity whose aim is to fulfil dreams for sick and terminally ill children, those with learning disabilities and who are underprivileged.

The charity grants wishes to children of any age and believes that every child should experience happiness and put their illness or situation on hold - even if it is for just one day.

In the current Covid-19 pandemic Sunshine Wishes Children's Charity is now helping children and families who, through no fault of their own, are struggling financially.

After being inundated with requests for support the charity started a project aimed at supporting 500 children.

It will cost £17,500, so the charity turned to Community Windpower and the Dalry Parish Boundary Trust’s joint Covid-19 crisis fund.

The maximum grant of £2,500 was quickly approved and has provided much-needed help to ensure Sunshine Wishes Children's Charity reaches its target.

Some of the money will be used to purchase and deliver basic essentials such as food, toiletries, nappies and electricity top-ups to a number of vulnerable families AND children.

The project is also providing children with activity packs to keep them mentally active during lockdown and educational books to support continued learning outside of the classroom.

Families have also received ‘pamper hampers’ to help cope with significant change in personal circumstances brought about by Covid-19.

The charity is working with community groups to identify and support those WHO need it most and has already helped almost 100 families and nearly 200 children.

Diane Wood, community benefits director at Community Windpower, which operates the Dalry and Millour Hill Community Wind Farms in North Ayrshire, said: “The Covid-19 pandemic is causing many families problems which is why, together with the Dalry Parish Boundary Trust, we agreed to help Sunshine Wishes Children's Charity project.

“At unprecedented times like these we all need to pull together and help each other, which is why our joint Covid-19 fund was set up.

“As we approach a new phase in the easing of lockdown, I hope the fantastic work done by Sunshine Wishes Children's Charity will continue to bring support to many more children and their families.”
