East Lothian Foodbank - £1500

Following from our last donation story not only are we supporting the local Dunbar Basics Bank Foodbank we are also helping out The East Lothian Foodbank. Again we have been collaborating with East Lothian Foodbank over the years in various ways.

The East Lothian Foodbank is part of the Trussel Trust, a nationwide charity that tackles food poverty. Their core aim is to provide emergency food for local people in crisis. East Lothian Foodbank currently delivers 50 food parcels a week across the county.

Community Windpower and BeGreen Dunbar are supporting 2 initiatives that they have helped with in previous years. These are the Jingle Bags and Get Fresh Bags. They have donated £1500 to be split towards these much needed additions. The Jingle Bags was first set up in 2016 and just recently in 2018, 346 bags were given out to clients in December. The Jingle Bags are an addition to the regular food donations and provide everything you need for a “Christmas Dinner”. Hopefully this makes this time of year a little easier for anyone that is struggling.

Having supported the Jingle and Get Fresh bags over the years Anouska Woods, Community Co-ordinator, is pleased to be involved again, “I still find it extremely sad that we have foodbanks at all but I am really pleased that we are in a position to be helping out. Especially at this time of year giving that wee bit extra takes the pressure off people and hopefully brings a wee bit sparkle to their day. I think it’s great that the East Lothian Foodbank also invite local partners to pre-order Jingle bags for people that may not necessarily use the foodbank regularly but just find this time of year a financial struggle. As well as the Jingle Bags the Get Fresh bags are a fantastic idea, giving people access to fresh produce every week makes a big difference. We would like to thank everyone at the foodbank for doing such a fantastic job.”
