News - CWL delighted to provide £500 donation to Dunbar student volunteering in Malawi - 19th February...
Community Windpower Ltd (CWL) are pleased to announce a donation of £500 towards Ariea Burke who aims to undertake one year volunteering in Malawi with disadvantaged children.
In September 2016, Ariea Burke a 16 year old sixth form student plans to travel to Malawi to volunteer with young disadvantaged children in either an orphanage, working with street children trying to encourage them into education or volunteering as a primary school teacher.
Ariea will be completing her trip through Project Trust who are the oldest educational charity specialising in overseas volunteering placements for school-leavers.
By volunteering in Malawi, Ariea aims to be able to pass on the education that she has been lucky to of experienced on to those who have not had the same opportunity. The 12-month placement will hopefully give Ariea the opportunity to inspire others and share the sporting and social skills that she has gained throughout her learning years.
Malawi has a population of around 16 million people, with the majority living in rural parts of the country and around 53% living below the poverty line.
To date Ariea has raised £3,450 of the £6,200 needed for the trip and has primarily raised this through bake sales, sporting tournaments, bag packing, clothing sales and online donations. Ariea aims to re-invest the skills and experience that she gains during this trip back into the Dunbar community through visiting schools and children’s clubs and talking to the children about her experiences in Malawi.
